Date2014DescriptionBlacksmiths were common in the Fairfield district in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
With numerous farms in the area, blacksmiths found plenty of work producing ironwork for wagons, sulkies, carts, coaches, carriages, drays, wheels and ploughs, as well as being kept busy making horseshoes, yokes, neck bows and other accessories for working animals.PhotographerAdnan BegicNotesThis image formed part of the exhibition Evoke by Adnan Begic (on display 12 March – 14 May 2016)
Evoke captured artefacts from Fairfield City Museum and Gallery’s collection, interiors of the Vintage Village and historical locations relevant to the collection. The photographs evoke personal and collective memories from the community, recreating stories and reforming narratives. Images were captured creatively, offering new readings, interpretations and engagements with objects and the site.
