Date1918DescriptionA formal portrait of Eli and Rachel Quartermain looking at their 8 week old daughter Dorothy who is laying on a pillow. NotesIt is a postcard photograph and on the back is 'Post Card written inside a scroll and underneath Jas. C. Cruden, 182 Pitt St. Sydney. To the top left is a drawn stamp like picture of a ladies head and to the right top is another stamp sized picture of a wreath, arrows and banner. There is cursive writing in black pen 'Photo taken 1918 March, Eli & Rachel (Agar) Quartermain and Baby Daughter Dorothy aged 8 weeks.

Eli Quartermain was born in Liverpool in 1879 and married Rachel Agar in 1902. They had 4 children; Arthur, Roy, Gladys and Dorothy.

Eli Quartermain worked as a telegrapher at Fairfield Railway Station and as a manager at Symons Brothers, Fairfield Tile Works between 1904 and 1912. The site of the Symons Bros Tile Factory was in Wilga Street, Fairfield. It is suggested that the Symons Bros may have had a site in Smithfield before 1895 but this has not been confirmed.

Eli and Rachel both passed away in 1954, their tombstone is located at Smithfield General Cemetery on Dublin St, Smithfield.

Dorothy married Robert Tompsitt in 1942 at Parramatta.
