Datec. 1974DescriptionFront view of Cambridge house and foreground. Geolocation[1] NotesThis is a series of photographs of Cambridge House, each taken from a different angle. The photos were taken by J.P. Hayes in 1974 during the filming of a video about the house. Cambridge House was severely damaged by fire in 1975 and subsequently demolished in mysterious circumstances. Cambridge House was designed by Varney Parkes, son of Sir Henry Parkes, for William and Eliza Stimson. It was built in 1878 by William Furner and was located at the north end of The Crescent not far from Fairfield railway station. It was a large Victorian mansion with a handsome external appearance: it was beautifully set in parkland, clearly visible from one of the major roads through Fairfield. (Bulletin, Newsletter of the National Trust of Australia, No. 67, April 1975, p.1) Cambridge House was a Fairfield landmark for almost 100 years. The Cambridge Tavern now stands on the site fronting Alan Street.
