Dairyman Ernest Britten with his prized cow

Datec.1930s to c.1940sDescriptionThe photograph shows a man wearing a hat standing holding onto a cow. There are four men in the background, two of them are partially obscured behind the cow. All four men are wearing hats. The photograph is attached to a decorative grey coloured board that has a darker grey linear design around it. Written in the middle on the back in pen is 'Ern Britten' in the bottom right hand corner is written 'Donated by Reg Clarke 6/12/1982'NotesThis image shows Ernest Britten with his prize milker Duckfoot at his dairy, Karoola in Smithfield. Ernest was said to have been a pioneer in developing motor transport for dairy cattle. The site of his dairy farm is remembered through the name of Britton Street which, sadly, has been spelt differently to his surname.
