Date1935DescriptionFairfield shopkeeper Roy Wheatley and Mabel Richardson, daughter of a local real estate agent, married in 1908.Geolocation^[1]NotesAugustus Hamilton Roy Wheatley, (known as Roy), was born at Goulburn in 1884 to George and Maria Ann Wheatley, he married Mabel R Richardson (the daughter of a local real estate agent) at Parramatta in 1908. Roy's father George opened his first general store on Hamilton Road, Fairfield in the late 1880's.

When George Wheatley built their new General Stores on the Crescent in Fairfield in 1891 a retail dynasty was born. Roy Wheatley joined the family business in 1910 and built his first shop next to his father's general store offering newsagency, hairdressing and tobacco services. A modest extension was carry out by Roy in 1914.

Roy sold his business in 1914 when he joined the Army, and he later bought it back and erected the central building there in 1922. The central building incorporated functions rooms (above the shops) and was located opposite Fairfield railway station.
