Described as "more Dutch than the Dutch, Holland House is a meeting place for the Dutch-Australian community and includes a traditional cafe and the Dutch Shop. The shop sells continental delicacies and traditional crafts as well as Indonesian spices. Directly opposite Holland House you will see the remains of one of the oldest market gardens in Smithfield. Many Chinese-Australians worked in market gardens after trying their luck in the 1850's gold rush.Date2001Transcripts availableNoRightsFairfield City CouncilAccess conditionsAccess open for research, written permission required for personal copies and public useNotes"Tune into Fairfield City- A Multicultural Driving tour" was launched in 2001 as a joint initiative between the NSW Heritage Group, NSW Premier's Department and Fairfield City Council.
