The medieval castle-like wall and two towers surrounding the Croatian Catholic Church of St Nikola Tavelic represent the Croat's historical resistance against invading Turkish forces and their defense of the Catholic faith. Catholicism is central to Croatian identity, contributing tot he maintenance of culture, language, traditions and customs.
