This multicultural parish began with Italia immigrants who had established market gardens nearby. The A-shaped building represents the sense of common celebration. It is fan-shaped so that the congregation can gather around the altar and sanctuary. With increased immigration in the 1960's and 1970s, the Mount Carmel congregation grew and was strengthened by arrivals from Spain, the Philippines, the former Yugoslavia and around 65 other countries.Date2001Transcripts availableNoRightsFairfield City CouncilAccess conditionsAccess open for research, written permission required for personal copies and public useNotes"Tune into Fairfield City- A Multicultural Driving tour" was launched in 2001 as a joint initiative between the NSW Heritage Group, NSW Premier's Department and Fairfield City Council.
