Collection SummarySt John’s park stories: the concept for this project arose from the need to fill in a gap in the Local History collection on the history of Fairfield’s suburbs.
A member of the Old Timers Group (Brian Rinaldo) asked if we could publish works specifically on Fairfield’s individual suburbs, in particular St Johns Park and offered to assist with research. Brian was also a member of the Old Timer’s Group (the “Old Timers Group” meets to reflect and reminisce on all aspects of Fairfield City’s local history and heritage. They also support other local organisations with research).
Initially a small illustrative publication of no more than 100 pages was envisaged. However, after advertising in the local and national newspapers, more than 100 residents responded and were willing to share photographs and their memories of the area. As a result the group collected approximately 500 photographs and recorded 10 oral histories and over 30 face to face interviews.
The photographs and oral histories collected formed the content of the book “A Journey in Time: A History of St Johns Park and its People” written by Vicki Movizio.
DisclaimerOral histories are a recording of personal memories, views and perceptions. They capture a moment in time and reflect the opinions and thoughts of the interviewee and interviewer at that time only. While all reasonable attempts are made to avoid inaccuracy, oral history interviews should not be understood as statements of fact, and do not represent views of Fairfield City Council or views that are endorsed by Fairfield City Council.
