From left to right: Nan Kitchen (Head of Dept.), Mary Kirkwood (nee Betts) & Kitty Bright (who later became the Matron of the Fairfield Hospital in 1970). NotesWinns was a large group of well known department stores with a branch on the corner of Ware & Spencer Streets, Fairfield. It opened in 1955 and traded until February 1981.

Winns was the first department store in Fairfield for many years and it was quite modern. It had a ground floor and a mezzanine floor which accommodated all the staff amenities plus fashion department, shoe department, office. And the ground floor had all the other departments. They stocked menswear, women's wear women's accessories and manchester. Electrical appliances, floor coverings, crockery, kitchenware and general household goods. There was a very strong social club that was started up which ran various activities; money collected from the different events was donated to different charities.
