Bonnyrigg Heights takes its name from the neighbouring suburb of Bonnyrigg, which itself was named after Bonnyrigg in Scotland. The “Heights” designation reflects the slightly elevated land in this part of Fairfield.
Before suburban development, the area consisted of farmland, orchards, and semi‑rural properties. Much of the land was part of larger agricultural holdings that characterised Western Sydney throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Major residential development began in the 1980s, continuing through the 1990s, as Fairfield City expanded westward. Bonnyrigg Heights was planned as a modern suburb with cul‑de‑sacs, green spaces, and community amenities.
