History

Canley Heights began as part of the wider Canley Vale district, an area that transitioned from farmland and orchards into residential neighbourhoods during the mid‑20th century. Early homes were often modest fibro cottages, reflecting the post‑war building style common across Western Sydney.
By the 1950s–1970s, Canley Heights developed a strong commercial centre with fruit markets, corner stores, pharmacies, hairdressers, and service stations. These small businesses became landmarks of daily life and contributed to the suburb’s close‑knit character.
In 2025, along with Canley Vale (together being known as The Canleys), the area became the first Special Entertainment Precinct in Western Sydney. This was set to transform Canley Heights and Canley Vale into vibrant night-time destinations that celebrate culture and entertainment while driving economic growth.
