Through its chapters, the book highlights the lives, determination, and achievements of Fairfield West’s pioneers — from early families such as the Stimsons in the late 1800s to the Fairfield West Progress Association. Their stories are brought to life and affirmed through the voices of more than 100 community members who shared their memories and experiences.
During the early to mid-20th century, Fairfield West gained recognition as one of New South Wales’ most intensive poultry-farming districts. Local resident and farmer Hugh Duncan played a prominent role, serving as Vice President of the State Council of the Poultry Farmers Association in 1935 and representing the Fairfield West branch of the Poultry Farmers Union of NSW.
In more recent decades, the community’s energy has shifted from agriculture to sport. Today, Fairfield West is celebrated for its contributions on the playing field, with Westfields Sports High School producing an impressive generation of athletes who continue the area’s proud tradition of hard work and achievement.Copy rightsFairfield City Council
