Horsley homestead stands on a former 2,000 acre land grant awarded to Colonel George Johnston for his part in quelling the Irish convict rebellion at Castle Hill in 1804.
Colonel Johnson did not build on the land during his lifetime, and it was subsequently passed onto daughter Blanche after his death in 1823. Blanche married George Weston, an officer in the Army of the East India Company in 1929. the house, built in an Indian colonial style, has 17 rooms, including a large dining room fitted with a punkah fan. Horsley Homestead is one of Fairfield City's few remaining early colonial buildings and is on the New South Wales State Heritage Register.
