DescriptionThis interview consists of two audio recordings and transcripts. Daly Bolongo Tribunali was interviewed on 13 April 2010 at the Whitlam Library, Cabramatta by Shirley Kingsford McLeod. Interview SummaryDaly Tribunali was born on 2nd August 1977 in what is now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo. The country was previously known as Zaire. Daly and his extended family lived in the city Kisangani. He went to a school named Okapi and he and his family spoke French. His father worked in insurance and supported the whole family.
Daly was brought up as a Roman Catholic but later converted to becoming a Baptist. His schooling finished at the age of 21. He then attended the Bukavu University Centre for 3 years studying political and social sciences.
In 2001 he was forced to flee to Uganda where he did social work with drug addicts and AIDS victims.
In the capital city Kampala, he met his wife and later, at the time of this interview, had 2 children with her. She was also from Congo. They had a civil marriage and it was necessary for them to learn the language of Uganda, which was English. His wife had graduated in law whilst still living in the Congo and Daly studied computer maintenance whilst in Uganda.
Uganda had become a very unsafe country and they lived in a refugee camp for 4 years. The country was strictly controlled but assisted by the United Nations they were able to migrate. Australia was their choice. They flew to Sydney and for 4 months lived in rental accommodation in Rosehill and then Cabramatta.
At the time of this interview Daly was studying Community Welfare.
