Collection SummaryA collection of 17 Oral History recordings produced as part of the project 'Fairfield Belongings', a partnership between Fairfield City Museum & Gallery and the NSW Migration Heritage Centre in 2008.DescriptionBelongings was an online, state-wide initiative by the NSW Migration Heritage Centre completed in 2008. Fairfield City Museum and Gallery (FCMG) was one of the project partners.
The principal aim of the Belongings project was to record the memories of ageing post-WW2 migrants through objects and memorabilia held in their private collections. The objects assisted in talking about their experiences of migration and settlement.
The partnership between FCMG and the NSW Migrant Heritage Centre resulted in 17 unique recordings. FCMG staff contributed in the areas of research, promotion, interviewing and documentation. Staff actively encouraged eligible members of the local community to participate in the project.
The participants were residents and/or workers from the Fairfield City Local Government Area (LGA) and represent the diverse cultural groups who migrated and settled in the LGA between 1945-1974.
