Robert Bartholomew was interviewed on 30 August 2005 at the Whitlam Library, Cabramatta by Shirley McLeod.Interview SummaryRobert Bruce Bartholomew was born at Lochiel Private Hospital in Canley Vale on 12 July 1947 and has lived in the Fairfield area until the time of this interview (2005). His mother was Australian born and his father migrated from Ireland at the age of 18.
Robert attended Cabramatta Public School and then went on to Intermediate level at Liverpool Boys’ High School. On leaving school he commenced work at the Bank of NSW at Liverpool where he remained for 17 months. Robert’s next job was at Nock and Kirby hardware as a storeman where he remained for 18 years. From Nock and Kirby he moved to Australia Post and was still working with them at the time of the interview.
Robert was very interested in sport and tells of his successes in soccer and later in Judo. He tells of the various celebrations such as ‘Cracker night’ and Christmas and how they celebrated such times within their family. He has very strong memories of the Fairfield area and describes it in detail.
