Brian Bailey was interviewed on 19 March 2003 at the Whitlam Library, Cabramatta by Shirley McLeod.Interview SummaryBrian William Bailey was born at the Royal Hospital for Women at Paddington on 22 July 1948, his father being William (Bill) Ernest Bailey and his mother Margaret Irene Foley. He was the eldest child and had two brothers, Peter and Paul.
Brian’s father served with the 7th Division in various places including New Guinea and with the end of the war he was demobbed and came to Fairfield where he commenced a saddlery business. He and Margaret married at St Barnabas Church in Fairfield and built a house in Wrentmore Street,Fairfield, where their three boys were born.
They lived in Fairfield until Brian was 6 years old and from then moved quite often as his father had joined the NSW Railways and was sent to various towns.
Brian’s father decided to leave the railway and join the NSW Ambulance Brigade so they moved to Guildford and the boys attended Merrylands High School when the time came.
Brian married Mary Rose Camenzuli, a migrant from Malta, on 13 July 1968 at St Barnabas Catholic Church at Smithfield. Brian and Mary lived in quite a few places such as Guildford, Fairfield, Merrylands and Macquarie Fields. They then lived in Bossley Park for about 20 years and raised a family of five children and they also have grandchildren. At the time of this interview they are living on a little over 5 acres at Goodrich Farm at Cecil Park where they built a lovely home which they have landscaped tastefully.
